Community Garden Marketing

Project type

Social Practice

Date

Spring 2022

Location

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Marketing for a food forest at a local community garden, Jeremiah's Garden. This project was undertaken as part of my minor in Natural Resource Management, specifically in an Organic Farming class. I understand my background in environmental science to be an essential foundation to my arts practice, as it allows me to both create socially-engaged visual art informed by the latest scientific research and to create grounded and culturally sensitive social practice projects aimed at increasing sustainability and human dignity. For this particular project, I collaborated with my peers, including the founder of the food forest, to create a new growing plan and implement it with our community. I personally undertook the marketing and branding aspects of the project, including photography at one of our events, creating a brand kit for the food forest (The Druid City Cultivation collaborative), and building a website to make harvesting and utilizing the food grown more accessible to community members.
